Tommy Arnett—Tennis—Graduated 1968
After thriving as a player for Elizabethton High and Carson-Newman, Arnett enjoyed a tremendous collegiate coaching career at Bluefield, Newberry, and Tusculum. During his 14 years with Tusculum, he produced a 439-152 record, 10 South Atlantic Conference championships (plus five SAC tournament titles) and 13 NCAA tournament appearances.
With his squads going 172-45 in conference play and achieving a national ranking on 13 occasions, Arnett was named SAC Coach of the year on six occasions.
In 1968, Arnett and fellow senior Tim Sheffield were the first players to ever represent EHS (and win a match) at the state tennis tournament.
